Electronically excited molecular nitrogen and molecular oxygen in the high-latitude upper atmosphere

چکیده
Relative vibrational populations of triplet B5g , W 1u, B ′36− u states of N2 and the b 16+ g state of O2 are calculated for different altitudes of the high-latitude upper atmosphere during auroral electron precipitation. It is shown that collisional processes cause a wavelength shift in the distribution of relative intensities for 1PG 1v=3 sequence of N2. The calculation of relative populations for vibrational levels v=1–5 of the b16+ g state in the auroral ionosphere has not given an agreement with experimental results. Preliminary estimation of the contribution of the reaction O+2 +NO to the production of O2(b6 g ) on the basis of a quantumchemical approximation does not allow for an explanation of the observable vibrational population of the b16+ g state in the aurora.

The evolution of electronically excited states in aromatic compounds can be studied by resolving the spontaneous molecular emission through sum-frequency mixing techniques with femtosecond time resolution. In this communication, a brief review of the experimental technique is presented, together with two examples of its use to investigate photochemical and photophysical pathways in organic comp...
متن کاملExploration of the adsorption of caffeine molecule on the TiO2 nanostructures: A density functional theory study
The first principles were calculated to study the adsorption behaviors of caffeine molecules on the pristineand N-doped TiO2 anatase nanoparticles. Both oxygen and nitrogen in the caffeine molecule can reactstrongly with TiO2 nanoparticle. Thus, the binding sites were located on the oxygen or nitrogen atom ofthe caffeine, while the binding site of the TiO2 nanoparticle occurs ...

متن کاملMicroscopic Parameters in the Excited State of Toluene and Some of Its Haloderavatives
The Ultraviolet-visible (UV) spectra of toluene, ortho-bromo and para-bromo toluene in different solvents have been studied. The electric dipole moments and polarizabilities in the molecular excited electronic states were determined. It was found that the electric dipole moments for the excited states (µ*) and the ground states (µ) of these compounds are equal, and the change in dipole moment i...
